The Gerson Program Saved My Mother's Life

Facebook like

I am posting this blog in honor of my Mother who passed away 2 years ago. It would have been her 85th birthday.

In 1978 while I was still in high school my mother developed breast cancer.  I had no idea what detoxification was or how it worked.  The nutritional program that she decided to use to help her overcome her condition was the Gerson Program.  The main strategy of this program is detoxification which treats existing conditions and can prevent disease.  My mother taught me how to do a coffee enema when i was a freshmen in college.  I bet Sigmund Freud would have a field day with that one. Now in my 18th year of private practice detoxification as a healing strategy is the most important part of my practice.
Below is a brief video of Charlotte explaining the history of the Gerson Program.

Inflammation The Slient Killer

Professor Drew's Classroom - Inflammation The Silent Killer

Inflammation is a Secret or Silent Killer.  As we know from the research over the past several years, there is a surprising link between Inflammation and heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s and many other diseases.
This was the cover of Time Magazine back in February 2004.  The article explains the link between chronic illness and inflammation as follows:
Most of the time inflammation is a life saving procedure that allows the body to fight off infection from bacteria, virus and parasites. (Yes even in the industrial world we are constantly being bombarded by pathogens).  The instant any of these potentially deadly microbes slip into the body, inflammation marshals a defense attack that lays waste to both the invader and any tissue it may have infected.  Then just as quickly, the process subsides and healing begins.  Every once in a while, the whole feverish process doesn’t shut down on cue. In any event, the inflammation becomes chronic rather that transitory.

Why You Should Start Oil Pulling Today

Hello Everybody,
This is a great daily health practice.  Something I have been doing for the last 2 years.
Why You Should Start Oil Pulling Today.
By Morgan Potts (see bio below)
Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic method for detox and rejuvenation. It’s a simple practice, with quite remarkable results. Many have heard of it, but never actually dove in to try it. It definitely has a mystical and exciting vibe around it, which made me eager to try. But what exactly is it? What does it do?

In a (coco)nut shell:

To oil pull, simply swish your choice of unrefined, high quality oil in your mouth; similar to the way you would use a mouthwash. My favorite is coconut oil. This can be done anywhere from five to 20 minutes. The process attracts and removes bacteria, toxins, and parasites that live in your mouth or lymph system, and also pulls congestion and mucus from your throat and loosens up your sinuses, which is amazing! With the help of your saliva, all these scary undesirables bind with the oil, ready to be disposed of. Pulling also helps re-mineralize your teeth and strengthen your gums by thoroughly cleansing the area. This sounds good, right? But how exactly do you do it?

Traditionally, oil pullers used virgin sesame oil. The reason I prefer to use raw coconut oil is because it has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and enzymatic properties. This provides the added benefit of killing any unwanted bacteria that may be residing in the mouth, while leaving behind healthy probiotic strains. A perfect exchange!

To start, scoop ½ to 1 full tablespoon of oil into the mouth; if it’s cold, allow the oil to melt. Now push, swirl, and pull the oil between your teeth, around your gums, and allow it to touch every part of your mouth except your throat. You don’t want the oil getting in contact with your throat because it’s now carrying somewhat toxic material. No gargling!

Have fun with it, though! Hum a little song, or practice deep breathing through your nose. Allow this to be a sacred time. Enjoy the feeling of cleansing, the relaxation with the absence of talking. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of smiling with a mouth full of oil. Something about it just feels so right!

Once your time pulling is over, spit into the trash or toilet, but never the sink — the oil could solidify and clog your drain. Now rinse your mouth out with clean water two or three times. Finally, drink a glass of water and relax. You should be feeling fresh and rejuvenated.

Why You Should Start Oil Pulling Today
February 27, 2013 4:09 PM ES popular reason for oil pulling is to find relief from congestion in the sinuses and throat. It is unbelievable how quickly this happens! Immediately after rinsing, you will find yourself blowing your nose and clearing your throat. I have worked with people struggling with chronic sinus congestion who experienced relief unlike anything else, after oil pulling only once! Their condition improved and the congestion eventually went away completely.

I began pulling to benefit my gums and teeth, which used to be extremely sensitive. My gums strengthened, and teeth became much whiter! It also proved to be beneficial to my skin, which cleared up dramatically, and became bright and almost glowing. Swishing with coconut oil has also proven to be beneficial to those with skin disorders such as psoriasis, and is great for anyone who wants to detox and begin taking better care of their immune system.

Oil pulling can be done at any time of the day, but for a more thorough detox, its best to do this in the morning, before eating or drinking. If you are having a hard time fitting oil pulling into your routine, I’ve found a nice time to do this is while in the shower. This way, you aren’t counting the clock until the minutes are up; simply spit when your shower is done.

I hope you enjoy this healing, divine and sensual experience as much as I do. Love the oil. Love the process. Happy pulling.

Ingredient Details
The Coriolus versicolor or "Turkey Tail" mushroom

The Coriolus versicolor or "Turkey Tail" mushroom has been investigated in numerous laboratory, animal and human clinical studies. Most of these studies have demonstrated that it does appear to have significant antimicrobial, antiviral and antitumor properties when used as a supplement to chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy. The anti-cancer and immune stimulating properties of Coriolus versicolor have been attributed to two extracts from its cultured mycelium (thread-like extensions). These extracts are both protein-bound polysaccharides known as polysaccharide K (PSK) and polysaccharide-peptide (PSP). Hot water is required to extract these active components.

Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum)

Known as "The Elixir of Immortality," Reishi mushrooms have long been used in China and Japan. Reishi is classified as one of the "supreme herbs" in the sixteenth century compendium Materia Medica, and was believed to help promote healing and longevity.* Recent studies show that Reishi may help maintain healthy immune, antimicrobial, antiviral and antitumor properties, and protects the nervous and cardiovascular systems.* Reishi has also been shown to support healthy liver function.*

Cordyceps (Cordyceps sinensis)

Found in pristine high altitude locations in Nepal and China, Cordyceps mushrooms are used in China to promote stamina, endurance and sex drive.* Cordyceps has gained much attention in the West since the early 1990's, when Chinese track athletes shattered world records and revealed that Cordyceps was an important part of their training regimen. Since that time Cordyceps has been embraced by a growing number of endurance athletes worldwide.

Enokitake (Flammulina velutipes)

Enokitake (Flammulina velutipes), commonly known as the “Golden Needle Mushroom” or “Winter Mushroom”, is an edible mushroom that grows on the stumps of the hackberry, mulberry, and persimmon trees.  Due to its crisp texture, Enokitake are used frequently as an ingredient in East Asian cuisines. Extracts from the Enokitake mushroom contains immuno-modulatory protein that can be potentially excelled for immune therapies  and to support cardiovascular health . The Enokitake mushroom extracts contain beta-D-glucan and immuno-modulatory protein (lectin) which helps promote natural antioxidant production , balance immune response , and to promote general liver health .

Astragalus root (Huang qi)

Immunostimulant and antitumor agent that has been shown to increase survival time in patients with adenocarcinoma, non-small cell lung cancer, and breast cancer.
Immune deficiency conditions such as HIV, CFIDS, and TB
Dry coughs, frequent upper respiratory tract infections, asthma.

Patients suffering from Coxsackie B viral myocarditis with depressed natural killer (NK) activity were treated with Astragulas membranaceus (AM) intramuscularly for 3-4 months. After the treatment, the NK activity was increased significantly from 11.5 +/- 11.9% before therapy to 44.9 +/- 15.0%. Another 6 patients of Coxsackie B viral myocarditis with depressed NK activity were treated with conventional therapy. The NK activity remained unchanged in 12.9 +/- 6%.

Suma Root

With a common name, Para Todo, meaning "for everything," there is a hint of just how much benefit may be to your health. Sometimes refered to as the South American version of ginseng, it has become a popular tonic that is used to boost the immune system and to fight temporary depression and fatigue. It has been used for Epstein-Barr Syndrome and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and it may make a difference in energy levels and stamina to a tired body.

Nature's Approved®
Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
Nature's Approved® Extra Virgin Coconut Oil is from certified organic coconuts grown in Fiji, and the production is also certified organic by a USDA  approved Certifier.

Due precisely to the production method, the coconut oil we provide thereby retains plant sterols and tocotrienols: Tocotrienol intake could result in bioactive concentrations (click for article)-- Tocotrienols, the least studied form of vitamin E, can achieve levels in the blood that may give protection against a wide range of diseases such as cancer and stroke, says a new study from the US. Because this Organic Virgin Coconut oil is not refined bleached or deodorized (RBD) and in this pure virgin form, it retains the health natural to coconuts including the medium chain fatty acids and the 50% lauric acid now recognized as highly beneficial. Processing is from expeller pressing the chopped and dried coconut meat. Production supplies from this certified producer are exclusively for Assured Organics distribution.

Recently assembled scientific studies See Dr Mary Enig's "Know Your Fats" show that virgin (unrefined and non-hydrogenated) coconut oil has anti-bacterial and anti-viral and anti-proteozoal properties leading to many identified health benefits. Dr Enig also believes lactating women using it will further increase their mono-lauric milk content to the benefit of the nursing babies and studies are being devised to prove this hypothesis. Monolauric acid is a natural major component of mother's milk and strengthens the immune system.

The high content of lauric acid in Nature's Approved Virgin Coconut oil is quickly converted to monolauric acid in the body and much is also easily converted to energy. Athletes use Medium Chain Fatty Acids such as those found in Coconut Oil as a quick energy source.
